“In the Golden Days" is the eclectic and energetic debut album of Seth Kessel and the Two Cent Band, a five-piece, genre-bending group founded in the fall of 2011.
Made up predominantly of original songs written by front man Seth Kessel, with tracks evoking the sounds of New Orleans jazz through Eastern European Klezmer and gypsy melodies, back around to the ascendant rockabilly-roots scene of the band's native Brooklyn, the album is a 12-song journey through some of the 20th century's most important musical traditions.
Highlights from this album include: The title track “In the Golden Days”, a bittersweet recollection of a struggling teenager trying to get by. “Don't Contact Me," a Dixielandstyle tune whose lyrics have a very honest and personal provenance—a verbatim (and brutal) breakup text message.
The album was recorded at Mighty Toad Studios in Brooklyn, NY, and produced by Seth Kessel.
